Hobert West, 1925-2013

Hobert WestMr. Hobert Lee West, 88, of LaPorte, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, in a car accident.

He was born April 1, 1925, in Coalfield, Tennessee, to Jim and Altie (Carter) West.

Hobert had worked for LaPorte Foundry. He had served as president of International Molders and Allied Unions Local 82. Hobert enjoyed yard work, gardening and singing karaoke, and especially loved spending time with his family.

On July 21, 1997, in LaPorte, he married Leota ( Rowe) West, who also died Aug. 10, 2013.

On May 17, 1965, in LaPorte, he married Mary Grace (Farlow) West, who preceded him in death March 21, 1989.

Hobert was also preceded in death by his parents; sons, Bret and Joe M. West; brothers, Arthur, William, Jessie, James and Ray and twins Hubert and Herbert; and sisters, Maxine, and Fannie Maire.

He is survived by two sons, Bart (Mary) West of Florida and Joseph (Deborah) West of Rolling Prairie, IN; two daughters, Norah West of Arkansas and Sue (Jim) McKinney of LaPorte; 10 stepchildren; 11 grandchildren, April West, Jennifer West, Julie West, Josh West, Jeff West, Jared West, James McKinney, Bret McKinney, Katie McKinney, Brandon West, and Brittani West; several great- and step-grandchildren; two brothers, Martin (Emma) West of LaPorte and S.A. (Betty) West of Ohio; one stepbrother, Harvey West of Tennessee; two sisters, Jeanette Cross of LaPorte and Flora Kaler of Hamlet, IN; one sister-in-law, Lucy West of LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. A life celebration will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Royce Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
