Janice Cripe, 1956-2019

Janice Marie Cripe, 63, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at her home.

She was born Jan. 28, 1956, in Michigan City, IN, to Colleen (Sydow) Miller.

Janice worked as a dealer for the casino. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing the lottery, eating chocolate, and especially spending time with her family.

On July 29, 1972, in Michigan City, she married Mark R. Cripe, who preceded her in death on June 1, 2010.

Surviving are her 3 daughters, Tracy (Billy) Davis of La Porte, IN, Amber (Chuck) Good of Grovertown. IN, and Penny (David Stacy) Cripe of Rolling Prairie. IN; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; mother, Colleen Miller of La Porte; siblings, Larry (Julie) Brown of New Carlisle, IN, Patty (Dell) Gring of Fish Lake, IN, and Marion (Brian) McCrory of Spring, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Cody Cripe; and nephew, Brian “Bri Bri” McCrory.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Carmen Gondek, 1931-2019

Carmen Marie Gondek, 88, of Michigan City, IN, passed away unexpectedly at 8:37 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at Franciscan Health Hospital, Michigan City.

She was born May 31, 1931, in Chesterton, IN, to Harold and Alma (Michael) Conru.

Carmen was a service representative for Indiana Bell, retiring in 1981 after 31 years of service. She was also a kitchen helper at MCHS cafeteria for 23 years. Carmen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Joy Circle, Exchange Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, Monday Musical, M.C. Senior Center, and Presbyterian Prime Timers. Carmen enjoyed music and theater and gave her support to these groups. She liked to bake and cook. She was involved in 4-H and won numerous awards at the Pine Township and the Indiana State Fair.

On Aug. 30, 1963, in Michigan City, she married A. George Gondek, who preceded her in death July 28, 1993.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Harold Ward Conru.

Surviving are her son, Michael (Carmen Sue Kelley) Gondek; grandson, Garrett (Allison Van Etten) Gondek; great-granddaughter, Kinsley Gondek; stepson, David (Debbie) Kulchar; two sisters, Constance Ruhe and Donna Penfold; one brother, Worth (Reva) Conru; sister-in-law, Marlene Conru; and numerous very special and close nieces and nephews.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin St., Michigan City, with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

Noah Herrbach, 1981-2019

Noah Sean Herrbach, 38, of La Porte, IN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.

He was born Oct. 28, 1981, in Michigan City, IN, to Roger Herrbach of New Buffalo, MI, and the late Karen (Cowgill) Herrbach.

Noah worked in valet at Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, and as a plumber for Kevin Von Ehr Plumbing in New Buffalo.

On March 3, 2009, Noah married Brittney A. (Ford) Herrbach, who survives.

Noah is also survived by two stepchildren, Jade Cardinale and Shaddix Ledgerwood; a sister, Megan (Josh) Schmock of New Buffalo; a brother-in-law, Brandon Kuta of La Porte; and a nephew and nieces, Alex Schmock, Elizabeth Schmock and Dezi Green.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt Ashton Herrbach, and his mother, Karen Herrbach.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte.

Janette “Jan” Ellen Zarco, 58, of Michigan City, IN, passed away unexpectedly at 1:55 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at Franciscan Health Hospital, Michigan City.

She was born Nov. 13, 1960, in Michigan City to LeRoy and Barbara (Hahn) Hancock.

Jan graduated from Rogers High School in Michigan City.

On Dec. 16, 1978, she married Gary Martin, who preceded her in death in 1987.

On Jan. 6, 1990, she married Gregory “Ziggy” Zarco, who preceded her in death in 2018.

Also preceding her in death was her father, LeRoy Hancock.

Surviving are her mother, Barbara Hancock of Michigan City; one son, Joshua Martin of Crown Point, IN; one granddaughter, Felicity Martin of Crown Point; and four brothers, Terry (Gail) Hancock of California, Hollie (Aundrea) Hancock of Virginia, and Lonnie (Linda) Hancock and Jeffery Hancock, both of Michigan City.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, IN, with Pastor Dennis Pickens officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Jan and her husband, Gregory, will be laid to rest together at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, immediately following the service.

Brenda Kay Taylor, 63, of La Porte, IN, passed away unexpectedly at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at La Porte Hospital.

She was born Feb. 25, 1956, in La Porte to Will and Gloria (Doyle) Taylor.

Brenda was an avid television watcher who enjoyed watching and rooting for her Cubs.

Surviving are her two sisters, Amy (Alejandro “Alex”) Garcia and Lauri White, both of La Porte; three brothers, Jess (Regina) Levendoski and Jon (Hazel) Levendoski of La Porte and William (Emmie) Taylor of Bostic, NC; five nieces, Samantha (Timothy) Maesch, Amanda (Michael) Burgess, Elizabeth Taylor, Carrie Levendoski and Angela Levendoski; four nephews, Christian Garcia, James Taylor, Christopher Levendoski and Eric Levendoski; lifetime best friend, Debra Ott; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Preceding her in death were her mother; maternal grandparents, Raymond U. and Flossie Doyle; two aunts, Barbara Mandeville and Norma Bishop; and one uncle, Raymond C. Doyle.

Cremation will take place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

Thomas “Tom” Hines Sr., 1948-2019

Thomas “Tom” Byron Hines Sr., 71, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of Granger, IN, passed away peacefully at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at La Porte Hospital.

He was born June 20, 1948, in Logansport, IN, to Virgil and Lois (Berkshire) Hines.

Tom graduated in 1967 from Penn High School, Mishawaka, IN. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Grampy was an avid movie watcher but enjoyed being with his family the most. His biggest mark he will leave on this earth is his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his two children, Elizabeth (Scott) Conklin and Thomas (Kelly) Byron Hines Jr., both of Michigan City; one sister, Beverly (Jack) Buffington of Springsure, Australia; one brother, Richard Hines of Michigan City; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Tim Chambers) Woods, Casey and Conner Conklin and Matthew Bowden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and her sister-in-law, Jane Hines.

Cremation will take place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, is handling the arrangements.

Norna McCabe, 1946-2019

Norna McCabe, 73, of South Bend, IN, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle, IN.

She was born Oct. 17, 1946, in Parma, MI, the daughter of Charles Riley and Mary (Tracey) Riley.

Norna was a member of The Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend. She was a homebody but was passionate about being with her children for events that involved them. She was an avid reader, enjoying authors such as Joyce Carol Oates and Agatha Christie. Norna enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh. She also enjoyed walking her dogs and loved the fall time of year. She would rake leaves into piles to build campfires with her family. Above all else, Norna’s favorite place was St. Joseph, MI. 

She is survived by her four daughters, Stephanie (Alan Kennedy) Stokosa, Amy (Chris Sehenuk) Westman, Kaley (Isaac) Devries and Meredith McCabe; brother, Frank Riley; and seven grandchildren, Devon Stokosa, Ethan Kennedy, Harper Devries, Carter Devries, Aubrey Devries, Sawyer Devries, and Peyton Devries. 

Norna was preceded in death by her husband, Gary McCabe.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, IN, on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A life celebration will be held Sunday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. with Deacon Bob Bucheit officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Jerry Coleman, 1949-2019

Jerry Coleman, 70, of La Porte, IN, was called home Nov. 9, 2019, at La Porte Hospital.  

He was born Oct. 31, 1949, in Pikeville, KY, son of Arnold Coleman and Anna Jane (Hylton) Coleman.

Jerry worked as a Post Cast Operator for Arconic before retiring. He was a practicing Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering on his Dallas Cowboys, Chicago White Sox, and University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. Jerry also followed NASCAR and enjoyed watching the WWE, and loved listening to old school country music. Jerry absolutely loved bowling with his senior league at Casey’s and he thoroughly loved playing cards at the Swanson Activity Center and the Moose Club.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Nadine Younce of New Martinsville, WV; sister, Dorothy (Larry) Bishop of Pendleton, NC; sister, Roberta (Ronnie) Tackett of London, KY; sister, Cynthia Powell of Prosperity, SC; and sister, Carnita Coleman of Pikeville, KY. Also surviving are the family of Ruth Principe, the Culp Family, and the Timm Family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Coleman; mother, Anna Jane (Hylton) Coleman; brothers, Jason and Gene Coleman; and sister, Jerlene Tackett.

Visitation will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, La Porte, on Friday, Nov. 15, from 2-4 p.m. A Life Celebration will take place at 4 p.m. Friday with a reception to follow at the Silver Palace.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Swanson Activity Center for Older Adults, 910 State St., La Porte, IN 46350.

Terrence “Terry” Maddox, 1945-2019

Terrence “Terry” Lee Maddox, 74, of Michigan City, IN, passed away peacefully at 4:41 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, in his home.

He was born Oct. 4, 1945, in Michigan City to Kenneth and Freda (Florer) Maddox.

Terry honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a truck driver for Teamsters Union Local 142. Terry worked at A.D. Connor, hauling gasoline, and for B.P. Gases, East Chicago, doing numerous jobs inside their plant. He enjoyed collecting baseball caps and taking vacation trips with his wife, especially their trip to Mount Rushmore.

On Dec. 5, 1998, in Pigeon Forge, TN, he married Audrey (Mashburn) Maddox, who survives.

Also surviving are his three children, James (Jennifer Coen) Maddox of Torrance, CA, Katie Maddox Young of Michigan City and Kenny Maddox of Michigan; two stepchildren, Angela Gramham and David Joyner, both of Michigan City; two brothers, Mel (Diane) Maddox of Florida and Jimmy Maddox of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Rylie, Carter, Donovan, Gabe, Dallas, and Niklous; six great-grandchildren, Elene, Guinevere, Brooklyn, Sophie, Braxton, and Cody; special nephew, Nicholas Sherrbaum; brother-in-law, Doyle (Pam) Mashburn; sister-in-law, Diane (Carl) Baggett; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Kenneth Maddox.

Cremation will take place. A memorial gathering celebrating his life will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Michigan City Christian Church, 11232 W. Earl Rd. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, IN, is handling arrangements.

Deborah Anne McEvoy, 70, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at home.

She was born July 5, 1949, in Chicago, IL, to James and Eleanor (Stuart) Watts.

Deborah was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, La Porte. She hosted parties with her friend, Simpson, for her friend’s business, Ruby Slippers, selling vintage antiques and clothing. Deborah was a gifted special-needs provider for her grandson, Eric. Deborah will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her four children, Gigi (Al) Manns of La Porte, Brian (Dawn) McEvoy of Ogden Dunes, IN, Scott (Karrie) McEvoy of La Porte and Lisa McEvoy of Mt. Greenwood, IL; former husband, Warren McEvoy of Chicago; two sisters, Susan Watts and Jeannette (Stan) Lanski, both of La Porte; 10 grandchildren, Eric and Matt McEvoy, Kevin (Kim), Denise and Denis (Rachael) Dobbyn, Scott, Kaitlynn, Amanda, Megan and Zachary McEvoy; four great-granddaughters, Alice, Zahra, Evelyn and Eleanor; godchild and niece, Jennifer (Kevin) Larson; one nephew, Tom (Mary) Lanski; three great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Thomas Watts; and one nephew, Mark Lanski.

Jack Renfro, 1932-2019

Jack Lee Renfro, 87, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at 7:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at La Porte Hospital.

He was born Aug. 16, 1932, in La Porte to Hiram G. and Pansy (McDonald) Renfro.

Jack honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired as a mechanic from Myrtle Motors, Michigan City, IN, after 30 years. Jack had worked security at Blue Chip Casino, Michigan City, and was formerly the night watchman at Bernacchi Greenhouses, La Porte. He enjoyed hunting, camping, watching La Porte Softball, fishing in Canada, bird hunting, and even roller skating into his 60s.

On June 4, 1955, in La Porte, he married Dorothy (Wood) Renfro, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jackie (Dan) Michaels and Rebecca Renfro, both of La Porte; one sister, Nancy Biller of La Porte; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Renfro of La Porte; nine grandchildren, Wila (Chad) Lee Harkin, Shantel Obena, Erica (Joe) Lukas, Richard (Tahnee) Rentro II, Christopher (Joslyn) Renfro, Jack Eslik, Kenny Eslik, Brian (Jamie) Rheinholtz and Amy (Zach) Haas; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Richard Renfro; and six sisters, Margaret Tong, Phyllis Arch, June Langman, Ernetta St. Onge, Patty James, and Catherine Wozniak.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Lamb’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 6006 N. Fail Rd., La Porte. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

Rose Philbrook, 1928-2019

G. Philbrook, 91, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Thurston, OH, on Jan. 12, 1928, to Vernon and Haroldine (Parrish) Hart.

Rose was a Registered Nurse and graduated from White Cross School of Nursing, now Riverside Hospital, in Columbus, OH.  She was a civic leader and volunteered as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. Rose enjoyed being a Red Cross blood pressure screener and working at the Blood Bank.  She was one of the first drivers for Meals on Wheels in La Porte.  Rose was the first woman on the La Porte Hospital Foundation Board. She was active in the La Porte Hospital Medical Society, where she assisted with fundraising and sending medication to Third-World countries. Rose worked on medical and hospice fundraisers. She and Syd were honored with a Lifetime Membership in the La Porte Hospital Foundation for all their work and support.

Rose served as property manager for the Professional Building on State Street in La Porte.  She was a longtime member of La Porte First United Methodist Church, where she helped remodel the church’s Ladies’ Parlor, the new kitchen and ADA accommodations, as well as serving on the church’s funeral committee.  Rose was a member of Tri Kappa as an active and associate member, La Porte Women’s Literary Society, and Questers. She was active in a local poetry club, a 50-year-strong bridge club and previously enjoyed a Needlepoint Club that was originally started by Fran Rumely.  She and Syd enjoyed many years of fun and friendship in a dancing club, wintering in Jupiter, FL, and summers at Pine Lake.

Rose’s greatest joy was being with her family and friends and helping others.  She and Syd recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Her family was her crown.

On Aug. 19, 1949, in Canal Winchester, OH, Rose married Seth Sydney Philbrook, who survives.

Also surviving are her beloved children, Pamela (Robert) Shultz of Elkhart, IN, Janice (Eric) Yandt of La Porte, David (Helen) Philbrook of Raleigh, NC, and John (Melissa) Philbrook of Crown Point, IN; 10 grandchildren, Andrew Yandt of La Porte, Kathryn (Matthew) Dermody of Fort Collins, CO, Christopher Shultz of Elkhart, Megan (Jesse) Lester of Goshen, IN, Jessica Philbrook of San Francisco, CA, Jennifer Philbrook of Charlotte, NC, Parker Philbrook of Crown Point, and Lara Rose, Lily Ana, and Michael Philbrook, all of Raleigh, NC; 4 great-grandchildren, Luke and Jack Dermody and Morgan and Reagan Lester; Rose’s brother, Dr. Terrance (Nancy) Hart of Longboat Key, FL; Rose’s sister-in-law, Ila Hart of Canal Winchester, OH; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Hart; sister, Patricia Tennermann; and brother-in-law, Herb Tennermann.

The Philbrook family would like to thank all of the loving caregivers who cared for and brought comfort to Rose and her family.  Their exceptional love and care made it possible for Rose to stay in her cherished home.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. (CST) Monday, Nov. 25, at La Porte First United Methodist Church with Pastors Evan Lash and Bob Vale officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Cutler Funeral Home, and from 10 to 11 a.m. (CST) Monday at the church.

Daniel DeKnight Sr., 1957-2019

Daniel John DeKnight Sr., 62, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at his home.

He was born March 6, 1957, in Chicago, IL, to Edward DeKnight and Marian (Roether) Cabaniss.

Daniel served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a retired truck driver. Daniel enjoyed playing cards, especially “neighbor show down” euchre; going to “the boat”; hosting Thanksgiving, and most of all spending time with his family.

On Jan. 3, 2014, in La Porte, IN, he married Diane Gesek, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Becky (Juan) Alvarez of Huntley, IL, and Daniel (Kim) DeKnight of Logansport, IN; 5 grandchildren, Jasmine, Miles, Weston, Landen and Jase; sister, Donna (Zoran) Terzic of Streamwood, IL; 2 brothers, Edward (Sharon) DeKnight Jr. of Lombard, IL, and Gary (Debbie) DeKnight of Streamwood, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.  A private family service will take place at a future date.

Robert Wilson, 1941-2019

Robert John Wilson, 78, of La Porte, IN, passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019.

He was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Gary, IN, to John and Betty (Williams) Wilson.

Robert was a mathematics teacher for 33 years.  He enjoyed watching the Cubs and IU Basketball, bird watching, and spending time with his grandsons and family.

On Jan. 6, 1968, in Ogden Dunes, IN, he married Cheryl Ann Wilson, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Michael Wilson and Jennifer Massengill; 5 grandsons, Evan, Tyler and Alex Massengill and Noah and Atticus Wilson; siblings, Paul (Mary) Wilson, Nancy (David) Smenyak, and Carole (Alan) Mumaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Brian Massengill.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, with Jeff Smenyak officiating. Burial will follow at Pinhook Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

June Rose Wearp, 85, of La Porte, IN, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at her home.

She was born June 20, 1934, in La Porte, the daughter of Benjamin Johnson and Beatrice (George) Johnson.

June enjoyed bowling, working in her garden, and doing crochet. She loved taking her two dogs, Porky & Petunia, on walks. June Rose always loved spending time with her family. 

On Feb. 12, 1956, in California, she married Dwaine Wearp, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her two daughters, Darlene (Bob) Mayhall of La Porte and Julie Sapien of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Dale Wearp; sister, Lorraine Ackerson of Kingsford Heights, IN; three grandchildren, Brandi, Michael and Dan; seven great-grandchildren, Breanna, Courtney, Nicholle, AJ, Jaxon, Greyson, and Hudzon; one great-great-grandchild, Jameson; and two more on the way. 

June was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and Wilbur Johnson, and three sisters, Edith Evelyn Kelsey, Margaret Moore, and Baby Vera.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A life celebration will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Pastor Bob from Harbor Light Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, La Porte.

Clara Louise Kegebein, 88, of La Porte, IN, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, in Chandler, AZ.

She was born April 4, 1931, in La Porte, the daughter of Samuel Lewis and Julia (Prokop) Lewis.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, on Friday, Dec. 6, from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, IN.

Dolores Roscka, 1927-2019

Dolores Rinker Roscka, 92, of La Porte, IN, passed away peacefully at 6:02 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, in her home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1927, in La Porte to William and Madeline (Wing) Salisbury.

Dolores was a former member of Hanna Methodist Church, Knox Methodist Church and Church of Christ, La Porte. She was the organist for 20-plus years and founder of the community choir for Knox Methodist Church. Dolores spent some of her spare time recording her organ playing for other churches. She was a current member of Church of God, La Porte. She previously was the Choir Director for Hanna Methodist Church. Dolores was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was former owner of DJR Ceramics, her at-home ceramics business, where she taught ceramics classes.

On Aug. 20, 1944, in Peotone, IL, she married, H. Lee Rinker, who preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1987.

On May 10, 1992, in Knox, IN, she married George Roscka, who preceded her in death Jan. 5, 2003.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, William Salisbury and Madeline Russo.

Surviving are two sons, Harry (Tammy) Rinker and Roger (Babs) Rinker, both of La Porte; one brother; nine grandchildren, Shellie (Tom) Kermin, Carol Wilson, Connie (Chuck) Noel, Matthew (Dawn) Rinker, Julie (Scott) McGinnis, Jennie Rinker, Rachel (Eric) Tollefson, Ryan Rinker, and Lynnsie (Andrew) Micetich; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 22, at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, with Minister John Haferkamp officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, and from 11 a.m. until the service Friday, Nov. 22. Burial will take place at a later date at Hanna Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lawrence “Larry” Andrew Ales, 64, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at La Porte Hospital and Health Services.

He was born April 5, 1955, in Galesburg, IL, to Richard and Eleanore (Albert) Ales.

Larry was a teacher and girls’ track and football coach for many years at La Porte Community School Corporation.  He was loved by his students and co-workers. Larry was a sports fanatic, especially in regards to the Chicago Cubs and Bears.  He enjoyed basketball and golf.

Surviving are his siblings, Laura Taylor of Austin, TX, Leah Ditto of Bridgman, MI, Lee (Dalila) Ales of Aurora, CO, Lloyd (Angela) Ales of Bridgman, MI, and Linda Anderson of Cypress, CA; 7 nieces and nephews, Elizabeth A. McAtee, Lucas (Elizabeth) Pansky, Madisyn Ales, Gavin Ales, Morgen Ales, Anthony Ales, and Isabella Ales; and great-nephews, Kelsen and Kyan McAtee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Andrew (Susie) Ales and Emilio (Sally) Albert.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, IN.  A Memorial Mass will be held in the spring.
