David Logan, 1947-2015

image0 (2)David Gregory Logan, 67, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at Franciscan Communities Hospice, Michigan City, IN.

He was born May 22, 1947, in LaPorte to Harold and Betty (Tag) Logan.

David worked for Pavey Excavating for over 10 years. He served his country honorably as a U.S. Army Vietnam combat veteran. David was a member of American Legion Post 83 and Portage Vietnam Veterans of America Post 905, and was post commander of VFW Post 1130 and president of Vietnam Veterans Inc. David enjoyed woodworking, storytelling, traveling, driving his antique car, and spending time with his family.

On May 5, 1973, he married Phyllis Jane Spence, who survives.

Also surviving are his beloved children, Carissa (Jeff) Harden of Greenwood, IN, and Alyssa (Rob Bentley) Logan of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Avery and Emmett Harden along with their sibling due this spring; brother, Phil (Doris) Logan of Los Alamos, NM; and sister, Judie Lindquist of LaPorte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Stacy Lynn Logan; and brother, Jerry Logan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte. Visitation will be held at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 3 to 7 p.m. with a rosary service at 2:30 p.m., and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the Mass. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.

William Harrold, 1948-2015

20150217-160440_WilliamHarroldMr. William B. Harrold, 66, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and formerly of LaPorte, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, in an auto accident in Rolling Prairie, IN.

He was born Nov. 11, 1948, in LaPorte to Burton Harrold and Margaret Mary (Whitmer) Johnson.

Bill followed his loving wife in the military and lived in Iowa for 20 years. He worked as a custodian for Villisca Community High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam conflict. Bill was a member of Villisca Advent Christian Church in Iowa and American Legion Post 400 in Fish Lake, IN. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking. Bill especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

On Nov. 22, 1980, in Jacksonville, FL, he married Patricia (Johnson) Harrold, who survives.

He is also survived by his sons, Adam Harrold and Kristopher Harrold, both of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Jayden and Konnor Harrold; three sisters, Pamm (Phil) Martin of Goshen, IN, Gina (Dan) Rotemund of Troy, MI, and Laura (Dion) Winter of New Carlisle, IN; four brothers, Michael (Becky) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Thomas Harrold of LaPorte, Timothy Harrold of LaPorte and Jeff (Michelle) Johnson of Walkerton, IN; two brothers-in-law, Larry (Carol) Tener of Villisca, IA, and Richard (Mickey) Tener of Pensacola, FL; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Papp; and his stepfather, Vernon Ralph Johnson.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Monday, Feb. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 9 to 10 a.m. A life celebration will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Williamson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, IN.

Robert “Bob” Decker, 1947-2015

Decker, Robert obit photo (1)Robert “Bob” D. Decker, 67, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago.

He was born Sept. 10, 1947, in LaPorte to J. Cecil and Gertrude Decker.

Bob graduated from LaPorte High School and from Indiana State University. He was a combat veteran, having honorably served in the United States Army Infantry in the Republic of Vietnam. Bob had a zest for military history and the outdoors.

On Sept. 5, 1978, he married Joanne, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Erin (Ryan) Gerard of St. Joseph, MI; his son, John Decker of Chicago; and his grandson, Oliver Gerard.

His parents preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is planned for this spring at Deer Creek Hunt Club in Three Oaks, MI. A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte.

She was born July 12, 1935, in LaPorte to Don and Mary (Przednowek) Lee.

Diana was a Stillwell High School graduate. She had worked for 12 years at Howmet Corp., 17 years at American Home Foods, six years at Gateway and three years at Lewis Bakery. Diana loved to dance to country/western music and loved animals. She was a very sociable person and loved to laugh. Diana would help anyone in need; she enjoyed life and worked very hard.

Diana had been married to George Smeester for 11 years.

She is survived by her three lifelong friends, Diann (John) Hartz, Robin (Donald) Huges and Randy (Janeen) Messer; stepdaughter, Barbie Smeester of LaPorte; and several cousins.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joan Lee, and stepson, Tim Smeester.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Zigler officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery, LaPorte.

She was born July 10, 1928, in LaPorte to Harry and Bessie (Francis) Peterson.

Phyllis retired from the International Department of Scott-Foresman and Co. after 15 years of service. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ of Wanatah, IN, and a former member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of LaPorte, and a member of the women’s group of the church.

On Feb. 15, 1947, in LaPorte, she married Russell W. Marquardt, who preceded her in death Dec. 30, 2008.

Phyllis was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Curt Marquardt; and four brothers, Lawrence Peterson, Robert Peterson, Harry Peterson and Gordon Peterson.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky (Larry) Pierce of Kingsford Heights, IN; son, William (Peggy) Marquardt of LaPorte; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Garland Peterson of LaPorte; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 26, from 9 to 10 a.m. A life celebration will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Carol Nordstrom officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.

She was born March 11, 1948, in Mishawaka, IN, to Odious and Ione (Willingham) Armentrout.

Velma was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie. Velma loved to play bingo, make ceramics, music, dancing and nature. She liked to take long walks in the woods. She was a Christian women and was a peacemaker.

She is survived by her two sons, Brian W. Mast of LaPorte and Davie (Brandi) Derr; two daughters, Tawnya R. Whitman of LaPorte and Dawn R. (Dale) Nowatzke of Mill Creek, IN; 10 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ott, Brenner Derr, Gage Derr, Kenna Derr, Jaron Lazo, Cameron Bailey, Trey Major, Angelica Schlegelmilch, James Miller III, and Cheyenne Miller; five great-grandchildren, Breana Lazo, Taryn Lazo, Elyana Lazo, Annie Steele and Blake Steele; two sisters, Gail (Alan) Hummel of Bremen, IN, and Laura Cox of South Bend; and two brothers, Michael Hull of Rolling Prairie, IN, and Jon (Donna) Hull of LaPorte.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward F. Hull.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Friday, Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon. A life celebration will be held Friday at noon at the funeral home with Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Prairie Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Alexander County, IL, to Curtis Ira and Dixie Marie (Brown) Dayton.

Blanche was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

On Dec. 21, 1947, she married Kenneth Leroy Corey, who preceded her in death in 2000.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Danny L. Corey; great-grandchild, Makenna; brother, William Dayton; and sister, Anna Mae Nash.

Surviving are her beloved children, Retha (Joe) Mattox of Kingsford Heights, Beverly (Dave) Hand of Kingsford Heights, Kathy (Steven) King of LaPorte and Darrell L. (Sharon) Corey of Kingsford Heights; sisters, Velma Samms and Mattie Vaughn, both of Hymera, IN, Dorothy Swalls of Lewis, IN, Rita (Jim) Jessup of Rantoul, IL, and Brenda (Bill) Bedwell of Patoka, IN; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Waine (Dorothy) Dayton of Kingsford Heights.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Doug Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Tracy Cemetery.

Judith Abuabara Fatule, M.D., 1932-2015

Judith Abuabara Fatule, M.D.Judith Abuabara Fatule, M.D., died Feb. 23, 2015.

She was born Jan. 7, 1932.

Judith, mother, wife, advocate of the poor and needed, always with the right sense to not judge but love unconditionally. She was an example for all who knew her and her presence gave strength in times of anxiety.  Born in Mompox, Colombia, she was a pioneer of women in medicine.   When she graduated with honors from The National University of Colombia Medical School, only four other women had obtained the title.

Judith was married for over 50 years to Ovidio Ovalle and they had two daughters. They raised them in a small town, where she tended to people from far and wide because she was known and appreciated for her great generosity, compassion and love for humanity. Even today many patients speak of her exemplary life as daughter, wife, mother and doctor.

Mom, your existence was strong proof of God’s love for us.

Her family and friends will miss her dearly and will keep her in their memories for generations to come.

Surviving are her husband, Ovidio Ovalle of LaPorte; her daughters, Judith Ovalle Abuabara of Columbia, MO, and Monica Ovalle Abuabara of LaPorte; sons-in-law, Juan Jaramillo of Columbia, MO, and Richard Gnaedinger of LaPorte; and her four grandchildren, Anika, Nicholas, Oliver and Jan Louis.

Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park, IL.

Isla Popejoy, 1929-2015

Isla PopejoyIsla Ruth Popejoy, 85, of LaPorte, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at Golden Living Center Fountainview Terrace, LaPorte.

She was born May 17, 1929, in Holland, MI, to Anthony and Grace (Hults) Dozeman.

Isla was a member of The Presbyterian Church of LaPorte. She loved to play bridge, was a member of an antique club called the Questers, and was an active member of Tri Kappa. Isla was a beautician for many years and enjoyed golf, singing in the church choir, and the holidays, especially Christmas.

On Aug. 12, 1949, in Holland, MI, she married her beloved husband, Gerald Popejoy, who survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Michelle Lynn (Greg) Gardner of LaPorte; brother, Alvin Dozeman of Holland, MI; five grandchildren, Sarah and Kylie Popejoy, Jennifer Gardner-Lyden, Emily Hersom and Jonathan Gardner; and five great-grandchildren, Ruthie, Lucy, Carson, Emma and Olivia.

Preceding her in death were her parents and son, Michael Scott Popejoy, who passed on Aug. 18, 2012.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 p.m. until the service. Burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, at a later date.

Jane Goad, 1929-2015

Goad, Jane obit photoJane E. Goad, 85, of LaPorte, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Brentwood, LaPorte.

She was born Dec. 29, 1929, in South Bend, IN, to Samuel and Valeria (Banes) Gourley.

Jane graduated from LaPorte High School in 1947.  She was a former member of the LaPorte Jaycees, Coordinator of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) at Countryside Christian Church, past president of Riley School PTA, Meals on Wheels volunteer and board member, volunteer at First United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen in Michigan City, Sunday school teacher for 50 years, and a member of the LPHS Athletic Booster Club. She was also a Fellow through Rotary International. Jane was the bookstore manager and teachers’ secretary at LaPorte High School for 26 years. When she retired, she was also performing the duties as the bookkeeper for LPHS extracurricular activities. In 1968, she assumed responsibility for the LPHS Pepper Club. As a result of her efforts, the LPHS Pom Pon Girls squad was established. She headed this program for 27 years. Jane also established the LPHS Bat Girl Program in 1970 and ran it for the next 29 years with over 300 girls participating. In 1990, she was honored by the United States Baseball Federation as the Amateur Baseball Woman of the Year for her outstanding contribution. In 1998, she was the first and only woman to be inducted into the Slicer Baseball Hall of Fame to date. Together with her husband, Marvin, she was a member of the Dugout Club of the LaPorte Baseball Association. Jane and Marv received the LPHS Athletic Booster Service Award for their countless hours of voluntary service and dedication to the goal of promoting high school athletics in the LaPorte Community. In 1999, they were recipients of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Distinguished Service Award. In February 2014, Jane and Marv were inducted into the Norman J. Hubner Athletic Hall of Fame. Jane was a former member of First Baptist Church and Countryside Christian Church, and attended First Church of God along with Assembly of God. Jane and Marv served as coordinators of SIA (Seniors In Action) at Countryside Christian Church.

On March 28, 1946, in LaPorte, she married Marvin L. Goad, who preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2014.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Phoebe Krege.

Surviving are her beloved daughters, Cynthia A. (Robert) Cutler of LaPorte and Kathleen D. (James) Abbott of Irons, MI; four grandsons, Thaddeus (Laura) Cutler of LaPorte, Layton Cutler of Los Angeles, CA, Andrew Abbott of Chicago and Matthew (Holly) Abbott of Ann Arbor, MI; sister, Jayne Hay of Springfield, MA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Roger Ash and Pastor Jeff Hines officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Dale Lovekin Sr., 1964-2015

Mr. Dale R. Lovekin Sr., 50, of Walkerton, IN, went in peace on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born Aug. 22, 1964, in San Diego, CA, to Verne and Sandra (McCoy) Lovekin.

Dale was a member of Prairie Garden Church of Christ in New Carlisle, IN. He loved to play pool and was a member of several pool leagues; he also enjoyed playing darts. Dale loved his family and friends very much.

He is survived by two sons, Dale (Shea) Lovekin Jr. of Paw Paw, MI, and Kiel Lovekin with the U.S. Marines in California; three grandchildren; brother, Jody Lovekin of Fish Lake, IN; sister, Kandie (Rob) Myers of Rolling Prairie, IN; two nieces, and one nephew.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A Memorial Service will be held at Prairie Garden Church of Christ, New Carlisle, on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. CST with Rev. Robert Baird officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, are handling arrangements.

Elizabeth “Alice” Goethals, 1930-2015

She was born May 10, 1930, in Mill Creek, IN, to Francis and Bertha (Antoni) Doms.

Alice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of LaPorte. Faith and family were the most important things in her life. She loved all children and her job as a cook at St. Joseph Catholic School. Alice graduated from Mill Creek High School, where she was a cheerleader. Alice was a very sociable person. She enjoyed polka dancing, gardening and cooking. She was a Notre Dame Women’s Basketball fan.

On June 25, 1955, in LaPorte, she married Robert Goethals, who survives.

She is also survived by her three sons, Charles (Brenda) Goethals of Elkhart, IN, Richard (Donna) Goethals of Valparaiso, IN, and Robert (Shelly) Goethals of New Carlisle; two daughters, Judy (Erv) Jourdan of Granger, IN, and Marialice (Terry) Sells of Schoolcraft, MI; six grandchildren, Ryan, Jakob, Jonathan, Samantha, Grant, and Camille; two brothers, Victor (Leona) Doms of New Carlisle and Joseph Doms of Mill Creek; sister-in-law, Shirley Doms of Mill Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Vantine; and a twin brother, Camiel Doms.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Friday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. A Rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. with Father Eduardo Malagon officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.

William “Bill” Robertson, 1916-2015

William RobertsonWilliam “Bill” R. Robertson, 98, of Greenfield, WI, and formerly of LaPorte, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015.

He was born Oct. 29, 1916, in LaPorte to Edward and Anna (Rachor) Robertson and lived here most of his life. He moved to Greenfield, WI, in 2009 to live near his daughter and her family.

William retired in 1975 from Allis-Chalmers as an administrative assistant. From the ages of 69 to 90, William worked for the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum in several capacities, including three years as curator. He was given the Historian of the Year Award by the LaPorte County Historical Society in 2000.

Bill will be missed and remembered for his many wonderful qualities, especially his kindness and contagious smile. He was a well-loved man.

On Nov. 28, 1936, in LaPorte, he married Gladys Bartelt Cook, who preceded him in death Nov. 15, 1989.

William was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Sister M. Kevin Robertson, OSF, Lucia Magnuson and Kathryn Sandy; two brothers, Lawrence and Charles Robertson; and great-grandson, Peter Robertson.

William is survived by one daughter, Ellen (Michael) Malloy of Milwaukee, WI; one son, Robert Robertson of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Kevin (Dawn) Robertson of Topeka, KS, Christine Baatrup of Peabody, KS, Shannon Taylor of Mustang, OK, and James William (Christine) Malloy of Shorewood, WI; nine great-grandchildren, Kevin, Patience, Zachary, Shannon, Paul, Johnathan, Christopher, Megan, and Molly, and one on the way; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and longtime best friend Sam Roberts of Warren, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow the Mass at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

He was born April 29, 1982, in LaPorte to Ed and Virginia “Gina” (Netzer) Lancaster.

John worked at Lewis Bakery for over 10 years. He enjoyed playing video games and he loved pizza. He was a member of the NRA, Michiana Antique Auto Club and 4-H Club. John loved his son very much.

He was married to the love of his life, for whom he patiently waited, Catrina (Reed) Lancaster, who survives.

Also surviving are his beloved son, Xander Clayton Lancaster, at home; his mother, Virginia “Gina” Lancaster of Hamlet, IN; and brother, Jeremy (Laurie) Capron of Jacksonville, FL.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Lancaster, and grandparents, August and Johanna Netzer, and Louise Lancaster.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Roger Ash officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the service. A cremation committal has taken place.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family of John Lancaster to be placed in a trust for his son. Donations may be made c/o Catrina Lancaster, 2900 Monroe St., LaPorte, IN 46350.

Rudolf Schloesser, 1931-2015

Mr SchloesserMr. Rudolf Fritz Schloesser, 83, of LaPorte, died Feb. 26, 2015.

He was born March 28, 1931, in Ostrum, Germany, to Hans Emil Robert Schloesser and Frieda Alma Lina Augusta Andreas.

Rudolf loved America but he was still German at heart. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the German DANK Club of South Bend, IN, LaPorte Neighborhood Watch Association, and the International Association of Machinists Union.

On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Hildegard Muller, who preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Schloesser, and his grandson Ronald Barker III.

Rudolf is survived by two daughters, Regina (Tom) Belzowski and Christine Schloesser, both of LaPorte; son, Martin (Gayle) Schloesser of LaPorte; grandchildren, Quinlynn and Adam Schloesser and Keith (Holly) Belzowski; great-grandchildren, Jude, Jonah and Rachel; nephew, Jens Peinemann; niece, Katrin Wenebach; and sister, Erika Edith Helena Peinemann (Robert) of Hildesheim, Germany.

Visitation will be held at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Monday, March 2, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home.

She was born Jan. 17, 1962, in Saginaw, MI. She was adopted in 1972 by Margaret Kueffner.

Judy assisted the elderly in LaPorte and Frankenmuth, MI, and was previously employed with Zehnder’s and McDonald’s restaurants in Frankenmuth. She was a 1981 graduate of Frankenmuth High School. Judy loved Amish culture. She was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth and St. John’s Lutheran Church in LaPorte. She enjoyed being a member of the large Kueffner family that gave her many great memories.

As Judy Kueffner she married Richard Hollers on Aug. 2, 1985; he survives in LaPorte.

Also surviving are her adopted mother, Margaret Kueffner; daughter, Margaret Christine Hollers; grandson, Connor Lee Hollers; adopted sister, Lynn Kueffner; aunts and uncles, Marion Forion, Donna and Hank Kueffner, and Dorothy and Edward Kueffner, all of Frankenmuth; sister-in-law, Lori Hollers of Arizona; and her mother-in-law, Earlene (Burlison) Cassidy of Michigan City, IN.

Judy was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mom Burlison; grandmother-in-law, Fern Duncan; and brother-in-law, Harold Lee Hollers.

Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, LaPorte, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.

Loretta A. Levandoski, 58, of LaPorte, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at her home.

She was born Feb. 18, 1957, in LaPorte to Loren and Nona (Kean) Stevens.

Loretta was self-employed, cleaning homes and businesses. She trained horses and dogs for many years. Loretta was a very devoted wife and mother; she loved her family and loved to help everyone.

On Nov. 18, 2005, in LaPorte, she married Stanley M. Levandoski III, who preceded her in death Aug. 9, 2014.

Her parents also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her stepson, Stanley M. Levandoski IV of LaPorte; stepdaughter, Carley Rae Levandoski of LaPorte; brother, Barry Stevens of Kentucky; and nephew, Adam Stevens.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

John Klibinski 3John Joseph Klibinski, 75, of Fish Lake, IN, went peacefully to be with the Lord at 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, in his home under hospice care surrounded by his family.

He was born April 29, 1939, in LaPorte to John A. Klibinski and Bernice (Gryzlo) Trim.

John honorably served in the United States Army for four years after attending Valparaiso University with a basketball scholarship. He was a carpenter and a retired truck driver. John loved water skiing, bowling, golfing, puzzles, watching all sports, and his family. He was a 100-percent Packer and White Sox fan.

Surviving are two sons, John (Barbara) Klibinski and Claude (Susan) Klibinski; daughter, Jennifer Klibinski Kray; two brothers, Richard (Karol) Trim Jr. and Stanley (Pam) Trim; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding him in death were his father, mother, and stepfather, Richard Trim Sr.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at Fish Lake American Legion, 302 Lakeside Dr., Walkerton, IN. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

She was born July 10, 1954, in Chicago to Milbern Anselm and Hazel Marie (Jones) Kohl.

Surviving are her daughter, Moria Scullion of Chicago; sisters, Laura (Glen) Nolte of Garden Grove, CA, and Gail (Carl) Ritola of Anaheim, CA; and two nephews, Alex and Elliot.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Allen Kohl.

A private family memorial service will take place at a later time. A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte.

Linda Young, 1958-2015

Linda Carol Cummings Young, 56, of LaPorte, died Feb. 28, 2015.

She was born April 25, 1958, in Indianapolis.

Linda became a registered nurse to fulfill a lifelong dream. She cared for many unlovable people in prisons and as an emergency room nurse. Her love of working in E.R. led her to working as a traveling nurse in six different states and with Native Americans.

Linda is survived by her son, Steven R.L. Benson; her mother, Louise Cummings; her sisters, Victoria Merriman, Lois Vertullo, Paula Carr and Michelle Huss; and her brother, George Leininger. There is one grandson by birth, Tyler, and several others who call her Grandmother. There are many who call her Mother even though they were not born to Linda.

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Cummings.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church and Fellowship Center, 810 Jefferson Ave., LaPorte, on Saturday, March 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
