He was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Wayland, KY, to Mack and Myrtle (Sloan) Hopper.

In the early 1950s, Charles started a small wood shop in Kingsford Heights, IN, with his cousin, where they created top and bottom boards for a large boiler company, plywood washers for the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant that were essential during World War II, and carved plastic tags for Johnson’s Service Company. In 1958, Charles acquired the business with his brother, James Hopper, and named the company Hopper Products. In 1974, they renovated the main floor of the building into a tavern known as The Hanna Hub. In 1976, Charles, his wife Louise and their son Scott moved to Hanna. In 1995 they sold the tavern, and in 2000 they sold Hopper Products. Charles and his son then reopened the wood shop business, C-N-L Products, in the old Co-Op building, where they specialize in custom wood moldings and furniture for homeowners.
