Amanda Sorg, 1981-2020

Amanda Sorg (Oct. 10, 1981 – Oct. 14, 2020)

In keeping with Amanda’s strict instructions, there will be no sad cr** in this obituary.  She was very clear.  We should celebrate her life, and when this pandemic winds down, we will do just that. Her request was no funeral, just have a party, complete with bingo, sparkles, and snow cones. And no tears. Seriously. Don’t think she didn’t notice.

Amanda Sorg packed more living into 39 years than most do in double that. She gave her parents, Mike and Gail Laughlin, a run for their money in her teen years.  Many an epic fight happened between Manda and her sister, Laurie Smith.  They always got over it.  She married AJ Sorg, who has been her rock. We cannot thank him enough for the love he has given Amanda.  Their two daughters, Sophie and Shayla Sorg, are their pride and joy.  I know it sounds cliché, but it’s the truth.

Amanda has a lot of friends.  I mean, have you seen her Facebook?  She’s a popular lady.  She’s also a busy lady.  Amanda never did anything half a**.  She was all in.  This obit will be ten pages long if I list all of her accomplishments and activities.  Just know they are many and she poured her heart into all of them.   During the week, she worked several jobs in radiation therapy.  Thank you to Amanda’s MHO and IUN co-workers for supporting her.  Amanda helped organize and support many community events for charitable organizations.  Inappropriate Trivia, anyone?  And I can’t forget to mention her softball family!  Most weekends, spring through fall, were spent at the ball fields.  Each October, she organized the annual Sorg Family Wiffleball Tournament to bring in donations for the local animal shelter.  Even with this crazy schedule, she found time to explore the world.

We’d like to offer special thanks to Devon, Courtney, and Lisa. Your love for her is endless and it shows.

We will miss her fierce spirit, her joyous heart, her generosity, and her wicked sense of humor.

Thank you to all of her friends for the love and support.  We’ve read your messages and they mean so much to us.  Please, take a moment and commit an act of kindness for someone.  Think of Amanda while you do.  She’d approve.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
