Ronald C. Johnston, 56, of Westville, IN, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at University of Chicago Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 25, 1958, in East Chicago, IN, to Jimmy Johnston and Elizabeth Parks.
Ronald graduated from Lake Station High School in 1978 and became a police officer in New Chicago, IN. He worked and served as a volunteer firefighter for over 35 years. During those years he served at the New Chicago Fire Department, Noble Township Fire Department, and Westville Fire Department. For 20 years before his retirement, Ronald worked for the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Rolling Infernos Bike Club. Ronald loved riding motorcycles, camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
On Oct. 26, 1980, in Lake Station, IN, he married his loving wife of 35 years, Karen Howell, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Ronald Eric Johnston, Kristy (Ryan) Culp and Troy Johnston, all of Westville; seven grandchildren; siblings, Penny Wanmer of Westville and Phillip (Crystal) Johnston of Bristol, TN; stepmom, June Johnston of Bristol, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Connie Kay McCarty.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cutler Funeral Home And Cremation Center, LaPorte, on Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Daniel R. Fleming Sr. officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, May 15, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN.
