Lonnie Alfred Russell, 62, of Hamlet, IN, died Friday, May 8, 2015.
He was born July 4, 1952, to Paul and Bernice (Proell) Russell.
Lonnie loved NASCAR racing, especially the Daytona 500, as well as the Indianapolis 500. He had a great respect and appreciation for Ford and all American-made vehicles.
Lonnie leaves behind sisters, Myrna Russell and Sandra L. Phelps, both of LaPorte; brothers, Michael (Diane) Russell of Wanatah, IN, and Milford (Judy Andrews) Russell of Valparaiso, IN; niece and goddaughter, Wendy A. (Shawn Blades) Phelps of Indianapolis, and nephew and niece Joseph (Aimee Meier) Phelps of LaPorte and Mindi Pyles of Denver, CO; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Jeff Jobe, Steve Hutson, Mary and Randy, and Dona and Doris.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great-nephew, Marcus Phelps.
A graveside service will be officiated by Father Ian Williams of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Tracy Cemetery in LaPorte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
