Doris J. Cunningham, 70, of Walkerton, IN, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born Sept. 15, 1944, in Michigan City, IN, to Robert B. and Jewell Elizabeth (Moore) Turner.
Doris grew up riding and working in her family business, Michiana Stables in Michiana Shores. She enjoyed rodeos, showing horses, and tole and decorative painting. She was an avid golfer and bingo player. Doris retired from Sullair Corporation in 2000 after 25 years. For over 10 years, she enjoyed spending the winters in Sebring, FL. Doris was past president of the Fish Lake Conservation Club, past board member of Fish Lake Property Owners Association, and member of the L.O.V.E. Club in Fish Lake and Legacy Hills 18 Hole Golf League.
On Oct. 14, 1961, she married Donald Cunningham, who survives.
Also surviving are her beloved children, Lee (Donald) Johnson of Winnebago, IL, and Sue (Larry) Apple of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Jamie (Zachary) Olson, Rebecca Apple and Brian Apple; sister, Leanita (“Skeeter”) Scott; and brother, Robert (Felicia) Sulkowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Jean Shires.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Tim Stewart officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow the service at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City.
