Grace Eileen Schumaker, 1922-2015

Eileen Schumaker 001Grace Eileen Schumaker, 93, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Golden Living Center Fountainview Terrace in LaPorte.

She was born March 12, 1922, in Greenville, IL, to Rev. Christian N. and Alice (Bull) Schumaker.

Eileen was a lab technician and dietitian for Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Her father was superintendent of the Olive Branch Rescue Mission in Chicago. She attended four years of college at Greenville College in Illinois. Eileen published writings in “The Treasury of Famous Poems” and was a writer for the Olive Branch Newspaper. She was a former member of Free Methodist Church in Springville and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Surviving are one sister, Velma (Schumaker) Carlberg Miller of Indianapolis; one nephew, Lester (Debbie) Carlberg of Hobart, IN; and one niece, Julia (Jerry) Adams of Indianapolis.

Her parents preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Springville Cemetery, LaPorte County, with Pastor Luke Bedtelyon officiating. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
