Frances E. “Betty” Boyd, 88, of Union Mills, IN, went to be with her Lord and her loving husband, Dick, on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at 10:06 a.m. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Elwood, IN, to George D. and Maude (Humphrey) Hershey.
Betty retired from Dr. C.E. Muhleman’s office in 1984 after over 30 years of dedicated service. Betty was a longtime LaPorte area resident and resided in Florida from 1993-2005. She was a member of Agape Christian Church in LaPorte. In earlier years she was a member of Wanatah Christian Church. She and her husband served together as youth leaders. Betty enjoyed crocheting, quilting, camping, traveling, and playing games and cards with her family. In her later years she enjoyed golf cart rides and watching her great-grandkids play sports and the 4-H kids ride horses at her son’s clinics. Lastly, she enjoyed making her daily post on Facebook.
Betty and her husband were foster parents to several children. She enjoyed life to the fullest; one thing she looked forward to every year was The Hershey Family Reunion. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a witness of her love for the Lord up until the end of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
On April 10, 1943, she married Richard G. “Dick” Boyd; he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2012.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.
Betty is survived by her six children: Karron (Ron) Peterson of Union Mills, John (Linda) Boyd of Westville, IN, Ric (Dana) Boyd of Union Mills, David (Lois) Boyd of Mustang, OK, Melinda (Howard) Barkey of Sulphur, OK, and Cory Boyd of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanne (Bill) Murray; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Agape Christian Church on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Rodney Nielsen officiating. Visitation will be at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, on Monday, Feb. 16, from 3 to 8 p.m., and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service. A cremation committal will take place and burial will follow at a later date in Elwood, IN.
