Elsie Fitzpatrick, 1918-2015

photoElsie Fitzpatrick, 96, of Tupelo, MS, and formerly of LaPorte, died Feb. 4, 2015, in Tupelo.

She was born March 28, 1918, in Albion, NE, to William and Marie Fischer.

Elsie married Charles W. Fitzpatrick on Jan. 25, 1946. After several years in Council Bluffs, IA,  they moved to LaPorte in 1952. She lived there until 2009, when she moved to Tupelo to be near her son Mike and his family.

In addition to being a homemaker, Elsie was employed at the LaPorte County Public Library until she retired in 1985. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she participated in Altar Guild, St. Ann’s Guild, Bible study, Sunday school and many other church activities. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Bibles for the Blind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; brother, Grant Fischer; and sisters Esther Tisthammer, Erna Battliner and Iona Fischer.

She is survived by her brother, Bud Fischer; sons, Bill (Debra) Fitzpatrick, Mike (Cathy) Fitzpatrick and Pat Dill; four grandchildren, Andrea Ballew, Sean Fitzpatrick, Kaitlin Fitzpatrick and Andrew Fitzpatrick; and five great-grandchildren, Trevor Ballew, Aurora and Ryley Fitzpatrick, and Trent and Rayeann Reed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, LaPorte. Visitation will be held Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1000 Michigan Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350.
