Nell Pensinger, 1912-2015

Pensinger, Nell Obituary PhotoNell Glentzer Pensinger, 102, of LaPorte, and formerly of Portland, IN, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Brentwood in LaPorte.

She was born July 10, 1912, in Jay County, IN, to Wilson and Abbie (Lee) Glentzer.

Nell graduated from Poling High School in 1930. She farmed for several decades with her husband and also retired as a food service manager from Pennville School. In her retirement she volunteered at Jay County Hospital. She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of LaPorte.

On July 14, 1934, she married Truman Pensinger, who preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1982.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bonnie Gillespie and Doris Calhoun; and three brothers, Lee Glentzer, George Glentzer and Joe Glentzer.

She is survived by her beloved children, M. Sue (Ross) Lawrence of LaPorte and Dick (Emily) Pensinger of Wilmington, NC; sisters, Mary Newhouse of Bryant, IN, and Norma Haffner of Yorktown, IN; grandchildren, David Lawrence of Niles, MI, Amy Lawrence Mader of Granger, IN, and Richard Pensinger of Nashville, TN; and great-grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Brandon, Ross and Amanda.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at The Presbyterian Church, 307 Kingsbury Ave., LaPorte, with Pastor Sally Wicks officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service.

An additional remembrance service will be held for family and friends at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland, IN, on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held there on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service. Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence and Rev. David Lawrence will officiate.

A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Burial will follow at a later date in Pennville Cemetery, Jay County, IN.
