Mr. Robert M. Worthington, 87, of LaPorte, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1927, in Olive Township, IN, to Clem and Ina Mae (Miller) Worthington.
Robert worked in maintenance for Allis-Chalmers for 35 years and later at Al’s Supermarket for 25 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He loved to do puzzles and woodwork, and collected diecast cars. Robert was an avid gardener and loved flowers. He loved helping others and was a very loving person to all his friends and family.
On Sept. 9, 1950, in LaPorte, he married Regina (McCauley) Worthington, who survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Barbara Jean (James) Whitlock of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, Hazel Snyder, Dora Carper and Sandra Lott, all of LaPorte; two brothers, Ray Worthington of Weatherford, TX, and Samuel Worthington of Mishawaka, IN; two grandchildren, Chris (Judy) Comeno and Patricia (Matt) Drangmeister; and two great-grandchildren, Cierra Smith, and Jonathon Smith.
Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lawrence Worthington; daughter, Ruth Lee Worthington; two brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Thursday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Cook officiating. Entombment will follow at Swan Lake Mausoleum, Michigan City, IN, with military honors presented by the LaPorte VFW and American Legion.
