Richard Revers, 1929-2015

Richard F. Revers, 85, of LaPorte, died Jan. 8, 2015.

He was born April 3, 1929, in LaPorte, the youngest of the seven children of Stephen and Helen (Keller) Revers.

Richard attended St. Peter Catholic Grade School and LaPorte High School. After working in Chicago at Goldblatz Drug Store, he decided on a career in business. In 1957 he founded the Revers Company, a successful flooring and window treatment store at 224 East Lincolnway, LaPorte, where he enjoyed providing his customers with the best possible products and service. He frequently commented that any job worth doing was worth doing right, and he operated the store until his death.

Richard served in the Indiana Guard Reserves and while he was involved in the community and his parish of St. Peter Catholic Church, he was especially dedicated to the Lions Club of LaPorte. He traveled the region assisting other communities to develop their own clubs and served a term as Indiana Lions Governor. With the Lions organization, Richard made several missionary trips delivering vision supplies and accompanying providers to Central America.

He is survived by his sister, Pauline Revers of LaPorte, and he is predeceased by his siblings Mary Foster, Joseph Revers, Elizabeth Nowicki, Genevieve Newland, and Edward Revers. Richard will also be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Burial will follow the Mass in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
