Norman Lee Tennis, 84, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at his home.
He was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Pinhook, IN, to Mike and Essie Mae (Shreve) Tennis.
Norman worked as an engineer for Whirlpool Corporation for 33 years. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a volunteer firefighter in Westville. He was a 32 degree Master Masonic, a member of The Scottish Rite and an avid golfer. Norman enjoyed wood carving and belonged to the Duneland Woodcarvers Club.
On July 3, 1954, he married Janice Ann Halter, who preceded him in death.
His parents and sister, Alice, also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his beloved children: sons, Brian L. (Donna) Tennis of Blue Island, IL, Brad A. (Bobi) Tennis of LaPorte, daughter, Vickie Tennis of Crown Point, IN; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Jonathon, Joshua, Anna and Adam; five great-grandchildren, Tim, Kaia, Zach, Emily and Jackson; sister, Betty Pugh of LaPorte; and one niece, great-niece and great-nephew.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Jeff Zigler officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, from 2 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial with full military honors will take place at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, following the service.
