Samuel “Sam” Phillip Tibbs, 75, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at his home.
He was born Dec. 2, 1938, in LaPorte to Harley and Laura (Lumley) Tibbs.
Sam enjoyed bargain hunting, flea markets, yard sales and collecting all kinds of odds and ends. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved horseback riding and bonfires. Above all else he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
In 1958 in Sullivan, IN, he married Donna M. (Dyer) Tibbs, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Donald (Julia) Tibbs, Laura (George) Korepanow, Robin Churchill and Brian Tibbs, all of LaPorte; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanie Wiltfong and Joann Brown, both of LaPorte; and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings and one great-grandson, Stephen Michael “Stevie” Suthard.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Bruce Elkins officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service. A cremation committal has taken place.
