Harold R. Bachman, 84, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte.
He was born Aug. 14, 1930, in LaPorte to Harold R. Sr. and Clara (Burden) Bachman.
Harold was a United States Army veteran. He worked as a Standard Oil driver for over 20 years. He also ran the muffler shop and worked at LaPorte Chrysler, and finally retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier in Mill Creek, IN. Harold enjoyed fishing, working in the yard and playing bingo. He had been an avid bowler in the past and also enjoyed golfing.
In 1951 in Michigan City, IN, he married Shirley Handtke, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Sherrie (Tim) Jones of LaPorte, Stephanie (Ben) Ameling of Rolling Prairie, IN, Sally (Fred) Bergman of Valparaiso, IN, and Robert Bachman of LaPorte; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Trevor Hammons, Craig Ameling, Karissa Ameling. Philip Paxson, Natasha (Jason) Walters, Mason Paxson, and Rob Bachman Jr.; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Robert Bucheit officiating. Visitation will held Sunday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
