Robert Huston, 1926-2014

Huston, Robert Obit PhotoRobert William Huston, 87, of LaPorte, died May 23, 2014, at home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born June 29, 1926, in Hamilton, OH, to Richard and Iva (Wright) Huston.

Mr. Huston served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Pennsylvania. Shortly after being discharged from the Navy he re-enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict and until his retirement as a decorated sergeant in 1965. He later worked for Watervliet Paper Mill for many years and eventually retired from Champion Paper in Colton, CA.

On Dec. 24, 1949, he married Alicia Marie Huston, who survives.

Also surviving are their beloved children, Alice (Floyd) Pullins of Benton Harbor, MI, Susan Young of Coloma, MI, Robert Huston Jr. of LaPorte, Frank Huston of Colton, CA, and Richard (Tammy) Huston of Coeur d’Alene, ID; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Royetta Whitlock; a grandson, Mark Pullins; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Young.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte, with Pastor Kevin Brintnall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the LaPorte Honor Guard at the service. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. A patriotic cremation committal has taken place.
