Mrs. Evelyn Anna Rempala, 88, of LaPorte, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Benton Harbor, MI, to Emanual and Emily (Shmidke) Kurbis and had lived here since 1951, coming from Benton Harbor.
Evelyn had been a sales clerk for Sears and J.C. Penney Company. She was a LaPorte Hospital volunteer for many years. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Aug. 11, 1951, in Benton Harbor, she married Theodore J. Rempala, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2008.
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Timothy and Theodore Rempala; one sister, Elsie Clardy; and one brother, Fred Kurbis.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Terry) Sams of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Justin (Kristin) Sams of LaPorte, Jessica Sams of Orlando, FL, Candice Rempala of Minneapolis, MN, and Erin Rempala of South Bend, IN; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Keegan and Mackinzie Sams of LaPorte; two sisters, Nancy Tyus of Greenville, SC, and Eleanor Lesch of Lodi, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
