Gerald Tarnow, 1933-2014

Mr. Gerald L. Tarnow, 80, of Ocala, FL, and formerly of LaPorte, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Covenant Hospice in Panama City, FL.

He was born Dec. 5, 1933, in LaPorte to Herbert and Edna (Norman) Tarnow.

Gerald was owner/operator of his farm. He was a 4-H leader and a Little League baseball coach. Gerald had hosted a Farm Progress Show.

On Oct. 12, 1989, in Las Vegas, NV, he married Rose (Iler) Tarnow, who survives.

On June 14, 1953, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Selma (Peterson) Tarnow, who preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 1972.

He is also survived by his son, Greg (Sharon) Tarnow of Chandler, AZ; two daughters, Gail Tarnow-Ballard of Scottsdale, AZ, and Lynn Tarnow of Lebanon, IN; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Ward Tarnow of LaPorte and Harold Tarnow of Texas; and two sisters, Nancy Trafelet of LaPorte and Barbara Zeedyk of New Carlisle, IN.

Gerald was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Tarnow; four brothers, Gordon, Herbert, Kenneth and Floyd Tarnow; and one sister, Luella Sallisbury.

A graveside service will be held at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, on Tuesday, May 20, at 1 p.m. with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Burial of ashes will follow. There will be no visitation. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.
