Thomas “Tom” Wing, 1931-2014

20140410-093355_TomWingPortraitThomas Wayland “Tom” Wing, 82, longtime resident of LaPorte, died peacefully on April 5, 2014, at The Knolls of Oxford in Oxford, OH.

Tom was born July 8, 1931, in Dayton, OH, to Wayland and Geraldine (Pratt) Wing.

Tom retired from NIPSCO in 1994. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1954.

On Oct. 2, 1954, at First United Methodist Church in LaPorte, Tom married Lois Jean Robe, who preceded Tom in death in July 1995.

In 1995, Tom became life partners with Maureen (Robe) Detrick of Bradenton, FL. Tom is survived by his partner, Maureen Detrick of Bradenton.

Also surviving are his children, Douglas (Joyce) Wing of Walnut Creek, CA, Daniel (Debbie) Wing of Daytona Beach, FL, Dale (Anne) Wing of Simi Valley, CA, and Sharon (Michael) Fricke of Brookville, IN; eight grandchildren, Krista Fay, Tyler Fricke, Brittney Kocaj, Janette Wing, Amelia Wing, Iris Fricke, Isabelle Wing, and Austin Wing; and three great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marianne Wright.

The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Tuesday, April 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment of ashes will follow at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte. A luncheon will follow for friends and family at Spire Farm to Fork at Legacy Hills Golf Club, LaPorte.

Memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s name to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org, or to the Honor Flight Network, which enables veterans to visit Washington, D.C., and its veterans memorials, at www.honorflight.org.
