Richard E. Hauber, 81, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 5:38 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1932, in Louisville, KY, to Albert Lee and Hattie (Shrader) Hauber.
Richard was a supervisor for McDonald’s, managing over 20 locations. He honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Richard was a member of St. Joe Club and American Legion Skwiat Post 451, both of Michigan City, IN. He enjoyed family vacations, gardening, yard work, landscaping and golfing in his early years. Richard enjoyed all sports, especially Kentucky basketball.
On March 25, 1954, in Las Vegas, NV, he married Billie Mae (Troutman) Hauber, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were one son, Eric; one brother, Lee Hauber; and one grandson, Nicholas Machler.
Surviving are three children, Keith (Kay) Hauber of Crown Point, IN, and Vickie (George) Machler and Kim Hauber, both of LaPorte; one sister, Karen Haines of Louisville; two sisters-in-law, Judy DeWitt and Daisy Greer, both of Louisville; eight grandchildren, Bridget, Richard, Lindsey, Matthew, Joshua, Elijah, Elaine, and Eva; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Ryleigh; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Duke.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte. Visitation will be Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service. A private burial will take place in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
