Nora “Dolly” J. Hamlin, 77, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte.
She was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Rensselaer, Ind., to Lloyd Francis and Madeline (Akers) Clifton.
Dolly was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, bird watching, playing Uno and Yahtzee, and watching game shows, particularly Wheel of Fortune. Dolly dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but loved Jesus even more. She enjoyed singing in church.
Dolly won her race. She beat ALS, it didn’t beat her!
On Feb. 17, 1961, in Walkerton, Ind., she married Jerry Allen Hamlin, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, James Hamlin; 2 sisters, Janet Vermilyer and Patricia Meadway, and 2 brothers, James Clifton and Bill Clifton.
Surviving Nora are her children, Jerry (Lori) Hamlin of La Porte, April (Joseph) Goyda of Michigan City, Ind., Timmy Hamlin of Walkerton and Teresa (Rex) Cox of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; 4 grandchildren, Kenny Veal of La Porte, Tyler Salo of North Liberty, Ind., and Jesse and Sarah Cox of Lawrenceburg; 1 great-granddaughter; siblings, Sharon Bealor of La Porte, Eddie Clifton of Mill Creek, Ind., Richard (Marsha) Whitmore of Monticello, Ind., and Rex (Cindy) Whitmore of Monticello; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, with Pastor David Adams officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery, La Porte.
