Billie Sue Westphal, 82, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away peacefully at 2:57 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at Franciscan Health, Michigan City.
She was born May 3, 1939, in Round Pond, Ark., to Henry Lester and Genieve (West) Scissom.
Sue enjoyed gardening, country music, western movies, traveling with her husband and watching the Christian program “The Gaithers.” She was an excellent cook who had a good sense of humor, always happy and sweet. Sue was a loving homemaker who loved her children and grandchildren deeply.
On April 19, 1958, in Michigan City, she married Louis Westphal, who survives.
Also surviving are her four children, Theresa (Westphal) Byers and Louis Westphal III, both of La Porte, Jeff (Terri) Westphal of Michigan City and Tina (Patrick) Papke of New Buffalo, Mich.; one brother, Jay (Margie) Scissom of Henderson, Nev.; sister-in-law, Carol Scissom of New Buffalo; five grandchildren, Ryan Byers, Amy (Tony) Roots, Steven (Hannah) Westphal, Kaitlyn (Devon Niegos) Papke and Keagen Papke; three great-grandchildren, Addilyn Papke, Ryker Piner and Khalen Niegos; special friend, Maureen Lulinski; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Ricky Scissom and Henry Scissom, Jr.; sister-in-law, Pat Scissom; son-in-law, Ed Byers; and daughter-in-law, Roxanne Westphal.
A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Visitation and viewing will be Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. The family requests that visitors wear masks.
