Betty Shamp, 93, of Kingsbury, Ind., passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021, at Miller’s Health and Rehabilitation in La Porte, Ind.
She was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Brookfield, Ill., the daughter of William and Cleo (Parker) Hull.
Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of La Porte, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a deacon of the church. She was a charter member of the Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and member of Republican Women’s Club 463 GOP, where she was named Woman of the Year in the National Republican Club. She was also a member of Lady Elks and La Porte Hospital Auxiliary, a Washington Township Girls 4-H leader and a trustee of Kingsbury Cemetery Board. She was executive secretary of La Porte Construction Company for 12 years and had retired from La Porte County Public Library.
On April 17, 1949, in South Bend, Ind., she married Donald H. Shamp, who preceded her in death April 22, 1998.
Betty was also preceded in death by her son, Zachary Shamp, and daughter-in-law, Mary Shamp.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. (Larry) Cheeks of Valparaiso, Ind.
A graveside service will be held at Kingsbury Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, with Chaplain Melissa Buche officiating. Interment will follow at the cemetery. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
