Lewis “Bud” A. Warfel, 85, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021.
He was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Wabash County, Ind., to Darrel West and Flora (Marshall) Warfel.
Bud served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a custodian at Hailmann Elementary and Kesling Middle School until his retirement in April of 1998. He enjoyed gardening and moving about in his golf cart. He loved his dog, Scooter. Bud especially loved spending time with his friends.
On Aug. 13, 1960, in La Porte, he married Polly Parker, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Mike (Karen) Warfel of La Porte, Ind., Shelly (Vince) Talerico of La Porte, and Cheri Hall of Michigan City, Ind.; 6 grandchildren, Chris (Stef) Warfel of La Porte, Kelley (Joe Vaughn) Smith of Michigan City, Nicole Smith of Portage, Mich., Kyle (Erica) Smith of Warrenton, Va., Connor (Kandice) Talerico of La Porte, and Austin Talerico of La Porte; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Warfel of New Carlisle, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Derek P. Warfel; and sister, Ina.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A private family service will be held.
