Mr. Dan L. Smith, 79, of Michigan City, IN, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point, IN.
He was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Mishawaka, IN, to Deloss and Lois Marie (Shaw) Smith.
Dan worked as a tool and die maker for Teeter Tool & Die in LaPorte. He was former volunteer firefighter with the Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department.
On Feb. 13, 1954, in LaPorte, he married Delight Dinger Smith, who preceded him in death April 26, 2004.
Dan was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ardes Engelbrecht.
He is survived by his son, David (Chrissy) Smith of Michigan City; three daughters, Cindy Smith of South Bend, IN, Christine (Galen) Dixon of Hickory Hills, IL, and Laurie (Robert) Glennon of Michigan City; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Pajor of LaPorte and Margaret Hall of Missouri; and two brothers, Donald Smith of Coloma, MI, and Deloss Smith of Sarasota, FL.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Friday, Feb. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 22, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A life celebration will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Billy Nickrand officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
In lieu of flowers contributions, may be made to pancreatic cancer research.
