Virginia Lee Plonka, 86, of La Porte, Ind., passed away peacefully at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, in her home.
She was born Jan. 31, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., to Alfred and Marie (Drews) Holston.
Virginia graduated at the age of 59 from Moraine Valley Community College, Palos Hills, Ill., with an associate degree in psychology. She was formerly a case worker for Swanson Center, Michigan City, Ind. Virginia eventually retired from Fred Meyers Jewelers, Michigan City. She was a breast cancer survivor who was considered a fun, wacky lady. Virginia enjoyed gardening, cats and feeding birds at her home.
Surviving are her three children, Chris (Lana) Fine of La Porte, Fredrick “Steven” (Brenda) Fine of Sun City, Ariz., and Russell Drews (Jamie) Fine of Romeoville, Ill.; her fourth son and nephew, Terry Allen Ritchie of Knox, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Geno Plonka; sister, Toni Ritchie; and brother, Roger Holston.
Cremation will take place. A private celebration of her life will be held at a family member’s home in the near future. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
