Bennie Lee Edward Peals, 55, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte.

He was born Oct. 24, 1965, in Caruthersville, Mo., the son of Bennie Taylor and Charlene Peals.

Bennie was a Baptist/Christian who led a very diverse life, never judgmental of other people and accepting them for what they were. He was known to be able to make friends with anyone and just loved people. He was an amazing person and would give you the shirt off his back. He was a jokester, loved BBQ-ing, and truly enjoyed music of all sorts but loved his jazz. He enjoyed riding and taking care of his Kawasaki KZ1000-P motorcycle, loved to go fishing, and was pretty good at the art of woodburning. He was a sports fan and loved the Chicago Bulls, especially during the Michael Jordan era. He loved the show “Kings of Comedy” and any karate movies. But Bennie’s world was all about his family. He was always there for them regardless of the situation. They knew they could always count on him.

He is survived by his three daughters, Catchet Young of Niles, Mich., Andrea (Lemaris) Edwards of Indianapolis, Ind., and Deja Coldiron of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Garik (Amanda) Peals of Elkhart, Ind., and Tyler Kyhn of La Porte; four brothers, Robert Lee Peals, Jr., of Indianapolis, and Bennie, Cory and Nathaniel; six sisters, Aretha, Angela, Barbara Jean, Abagail, Dorthy, and Juanita; and 11 grandchildren, Mya Young, Sienna Young, Anya Young, Marshal Johnson, Jr., Jemarian Peals, Jordyn Lavergne, Carriana Peals, Jamareion Grant, Anna’Leena Peals, Lemaris Edwards, Jr., and Malachi Edwards.

Bennie was preceded in death by Robert Art Peals.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. Cremation will take place. Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, is handling arrangements. The family will be hosting a family BBQ gathering at Lindewald Park, 700-798 Park St., La Porte, after the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in Bennie’s name.

Messages of condolence may be posted below.
