Cilas Anthony Gage Maitland, 5 ½ years old, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away peacefully at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, in his home.

He was born Sept. 19, 2015, at 10:18 a.m. in La Porte, Ind., to Nicholas and Brianna (Glossenger) Maitland.

Cilas enjoyed music and dancing, and watching Disney movies such as “Moana,” “Frozen” and “Little Mermaid.” He also enjoyed the movies “Home” and “Smurfs: The Lost Village.” His favorite TV shows were “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Family Guy.” He enjoyed watching his dad and brother play video games and always wanted to chew on the controller.

Cilas was always playing with his crinkle book, stuffies, chewy toys, the HME on his trach, and rattle balls. Cilas loved to stare at his lights and projectors and never went anywhere without his sippy and binky. His favorite activities were watching TV, going for walks with his family, car rides, cuddling his family – especially during family movie nights, rocking in his chair and rolling around on his mat, taking baths/showers, playing in the pool with Carter, and eating anything that he could by mouth.

Cilas was known to be the strongest and happiest guy. A little superhero. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Many people around the world who have never even met him loved him dearly. Cilas fought so hard for so long, always with a smile on his face no matter what he went through. His parents and siblings were right beside him fighting every step of the way.

Surviving are his parents, Nicholas and Brianna Maitland of Michigan City; three siblings, Nathan, Carter and Leilynd Maitland; paternal grandparents, Mike Utpatel and Tammy Utpatel; paternal great-grandmother, Lucy Thompson; maternal grandparent, Travis Glossenger; maternal great-grandmother, Pamela Smith; and several aunts, uncle and cousins who love him dearly.

Preceding him in death were his paternal great-grandfather, William Thompson; maternal great-grandfather, Kenneth Glossenger; uncle, Richard Arrowsmith; uncle, Gage Glossenger; and his bearded dragon, Maui.

Cremation will take place. A private service will be held. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.

Messages of condolence may be posted below.
