Samuel Larry Scalf, 76, of Calvert City, Ky., passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, in Calvert City, Ky.
He was born Dec. 14, 1944, in Snohomish, Wash., to Samuel Thomas and Delora Gaynell (Baxley) Scalf.
One of Sam’s favorite things to do was fishing. He was known as an excellent woodworker, especially when working on a lathe. He enjoyed traveling and camping, doing those most of his life. He played bass in a band for many years. He loved cooking for his family and spent time in the garden. His biggest passion was his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.
On April 3, 2003, at First Lutheran Church, he married Pamela Lawrence Scalf, who survives.
He is also survived by daughter, Terri (Scott) Scalf and son Quince Scalf; parents-in-law Gerald and Maxine Lawrence; brothers-in-law Mike (Kelly) Lawrence and Steve (Theresa) Lawrence; brother Garry (Patti) Scalf; sister Sharon (Virgil) Kunkel; five grandchildren, Samuel (Brittany) Howard, Joseph (Sandi) Howard, Alexandria (Anthony) Tomb, and Londyn and Callie Scalf; and eight great-grandchildren, Evan, Olivia, Freddie, Leo, Scarlett, Silas, Benji, and Rocco.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dudley and twins Gerald and Henry; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, on Sunday, June 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. with a life celebration at 4 p.m. Pastor Denny Meyers will officiate. It is requested that masks be worn. Interment will follow at Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, Ind.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew by the Lake Lutheran Church, 3966 U.S. 641 N., Benton, Ky. 42025, or to a charity of your choice. The family requests plants to be sent if you would like.
