Marjorie Cummings, 93, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte.
She was born Dec. 21, 1927, in La Porte, the daughter of Lacey L. and Vera (Johnson) Ash.
Marjorie enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, computer games, gardening and reading. She volunteered at La Porte Hospital and mentored at Handley School and the Braille Center at Lutheran Trinity Church. She worked for Hiley Jewelers and at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant during the war. She retired from La Porte Family Practice after 25 years. But most importantly, her passion was her family.
She is survived by her two sons, Alan (Rebecca) Cummings of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert “Beaker” (Kimberly) Cummings of Kingsford Heights, Ind.; sister, Shirley Lanz of Dallas, Tex.; six grandchildren who called her “Grandma”; 6 great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; brothers, Vernon Cummings, Lauren “Doggie” and William; and sisters-in-law, Katherine, Charlotte and Marilyn.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 10, from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte. A life celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, La Porte.
