Dolores J. Kirkham, 84, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, New Carlisle, IN.
She was born Aug. 31, 1929, in South Beloit, IL, to Walter and Lula (Hurt) Lieber.
Dolores retired from T.P. Orthodontics, Westville, IN, after five years of service and also had worked at Whirlpool for 23 years, General Telephone Company and Schafer’s Laundry, all of LaPorte. She and her husband owned and operated the Red Rooster Inn, LaPorte. She enjoyed plants, gardening, drawing, painting, reading, camping with her family, and helping others by donating blood. Dolores loved spending time with her grandchildren and regularly helped them get on the morning school bus.
On June 14, 1952, she married Walter Glenn Kirkham, who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and one son, Walter G. Kirkham Jr.
Surviving are two children, David Kirkham of LaPorte and Donna (Todd) Baughman of New Carlisle; two sisters, Joan Kirkham of LaPorte and Linda Reeve of Oak Park, IL; and two grandchildren, Hunter and Gunner Baughman.
A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Lorne Hodum officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the service.
