Frank Donald Frazier, of La Porte, Ind., passed away peacefully at 96 years of age from complications of COVID-19 on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Brentwood of La Porte.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Rosell and Ruth (Wood) Frazier.
Frank served for 8 years as a U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant, spending part of his service during World War II in the South Pacific. While working toward his mechanical engineering degree, Frank and his wife, Carol, farmed and started their family. Upon graduation from Indiana Technical Institute of Fort Wayne, Frank moved his family to Rockford, Ill,, to start his engineering career. The family relocated to La Porte to be closer to their extended family in Fort Wayne, becoming members of Grace Baptist Church, where Frank served for many years as deacon and treasurer.
Frank worked for over 30 years at Wirecraft Industries, Rolling Prairie, Ind., as plant engineer. He obtained his MBA from Purdue University-Calumet and traveled for work to Japan and Europe, utilizing knowledge gained to design several machines for Wirecraft. Frank reluctantly retired at age 73.
Those who knew Frank noted he was never without a great, big, handsome smile for everyone. Frank loved cars and golf, obtaining a hole-in-one, of which he was so proud.
On Feb. 25, 1956, in Fort Wayne, he married Carol (Poe) Frazier. After their COVID-19 diagnoses, his loving wife Carol was never the same. Carol passed 5 months later under the care of hospice on Friday, May 7, 2021.
Surviving are his five daughters and their husbands, Janet (David) Baker of La Porte, Marcia (James Hill) Brewer of Michigan City, Ind., Elizabeth (Pat) Dennis of Westminster, S.C., Marlene (Jerry Kewley) Frazier of La Porte and Linda (Doug Grant) Burnham of Tipton, Ind.; one brother, George Frazier, 99, of Churubusco, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Kelly (John) O’Donnell, Joshua (Erin) Brewer, Andrew Devereaux, Nicole (Matt) Ekovich, Megan (Darin) Chancellor, Caitlin Burnham, Nicholas Hodder, and Blake Grant; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and seven siblings, Dorwin, Irene, Earl, Paul and Robert Frazier, Betty McComb and Helen Snyder.
A memorial service for both Frank and Carol Frazier will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte. Visitation will be held from noon until the service.
