Leona Marian Dittmer, 96, of La Porte, Ind., passed away peacefully Monday, May 10, 2021.
She was born June 6, 1924, in Michigan City, Ind., to William and Ida (Raffel) Miller.
As well as being a homemaker, for a short time during World War II Leona worked for the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant, making bullets for the war effort. Leona enjoyed traveling with her husband in their camper, baking, bird watching, and fishing.
In 1941, she married Clarence William Dittmer, who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her were her parents, 8 siblings and 2 great-grandchildren.
Surviving Leona are her sister, Gladys Nelson of La Porte; daughter, Connie Jean (Martin) Barnes of La Porte; 3 grandchildren, Brenda Sue (Victor) Hull of La Porte, Kelly Lynn (Thomas) Owens of La Porte and Jeffrey Scott (Theresa) Barnes of La Porte; 7 great-grandchildren, Lindsey (John Berry) Hull, Matthew Hull, Nickolas (Josie) Owens, Tyler Owens, Jordan (Christian) Porter, Megan Barnes, and Kyleigh Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte, with Pastor Ronald Brauer officiating. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 17, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask.
