Thelma LaDonna (Schoff) McGinnis, 85, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021, surrounded by her family.
She was born in La Porte on April 27, 1936, to Emery Flavious and Mary Elizabeth (Lovekin) Schoff.
Thelma enjoyed puzzle books, flowers, bird watching and collecting wind chimes.
On May 9, 1959, in La Porte, she married Jack Merle McGinnis, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2016.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Don Scheidel; daughter, Betty Scheidel; brothers, William, Cecil, George, Donald, Warren, Emery, Robert, and Howard Schoff; sisters, Ethel Wanmer, Esther Conley and Jennie Schoff; and great-great-granddaughters, Emma and Aria Scarborough.
Surviving are her children, Jack “Skip” (Dawn) McGinnis of La Porte, JoAnne (Bob) Faught of Valparaiso, Ind., Walter “Gator” (Congetta) McGinnis of La Porte, Thomas McGinnis of La Porte, and Mary Lou (David) Belcher of Chapmansville, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Gribble of Logansport, Ind.; brothers-in-law, Larry (Marge) McGinnis of La Porte and Earl (Carol) McGinnis of Michigan City, Ind.; and several other loving family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.
Anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask.
