Larry Roy Knowlton, 77, of Union Mills, Ind., passed away peacefully at 2:07 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte.
He was born April 28, 1943, in Fish Lake, Ind., to Roy and Laverne (Sproule) Knowlton.
Larry honorably served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard. He earned his business degree from Riverside College, Calif. During college, Larry was offered a minor-league baseball contract, but he chose not to accept to instead care for his ill father. Larry formerly coached Little League baseball teams in Westville and Union Mills, later working as scorekeeper. He retired as shipping foreman for Bethlehem Steel after 31 years of service.
Larry was a loyal and honest gentleman who was there to help whomever needed it. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, basketball, Notre Dame football, and fishing with his oldest grandson, Josh.
On March 29, 1994, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., he married Diane (Zurek) Knowlton, who survives.
Also surviving are his two children, Shelley Regan of Union Mills and Aaron Knowlton of Valparaiso, Ind.; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Julie) Zurek of Chesterton, Ind., and Brian (Deb) Zurek of Portage, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Beth (Alan) Gernenz of Chesterton; two nephews, Kevin Zurek and Kyle Gernenz; six grandchildren, Josh Regan, Christian and Alexus Passmore, and Tricia, Addi and Nya Knowlton; and special cousin, Ron Skinner.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his former wife, Patricia Knowlton.
Cremation will take place. A private celebration of his life will be held. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, La Porte, is handling arrangements.
