Larry Sims, 81, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in La Porte on Feb. 4, 1939, to Lowell Ossie and AdaWilmina (Gemberling) Sims.

Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army. After serving his country, he worked as a plant manager for Sullair, working his way up from the production floor. He left Sullair after 25 years of faithful service.  Later, he became a production manager at Trivani Pump.

Larry enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and gardening.  He was always outside doing various activities. There wasn’t much that Larry didn’t enjoy doing, including attending flea markets, antiquing and playing Bingo. Most importantly, Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He was a kind soul with a big heart.

On July 28, 1962, in La Porte, he married Carole Clendenen, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Sheila Williams of La Porte and Julie (Louie) Kopernak of Indianapolis; 4 grandchildren, Kristina Born of La Porte, Nicole Williams of La Porte, Hayden Kopernak of Indianapolis and Liam Kopernak of Indianapolis; 2 great-grandchildren, Noah and Eli Born; sister, Shirley (Ron) Goodwin of Wanatah, Ind.; brother, Gary Sims of La Porte; numerous nieces and nephews; special cat, Bob; and beloved dog, Valentine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Sims; and sister-in-law, Mary Sims.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Full Military Honors will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 4, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Due to the recent governor’s order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six feet. Also, we are limited to 25 people in the building at any given time. We kindly ask for your patience as we oversee these mandated guidelines.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dunes Hospice, which provided outstanding, loving care to Larry.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimers & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, Inc., 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, Ind. 46617.
