Scott Allen Browning passed away Jan. 11, 2021, at Northwest Health – La Porte.

He was born Dec. 24, 1970, in La Porte, Ind., and recently celebrated his 50th birthday.

Scott was a graduate of La Porte High School. He began working at age 15 at Round the Clock Restaurant and followed the owner to Christo’s Restaurant in La Porte, where he worked for 35 years. He started as a busboy and eventually became chef. During that time, he met Janice Cummins and they became great friends. They were married on May 27, 2000.

Scott was an excellent cook. He and Jan were an amazing team. Scott would cook and Jan baked, much to the delight of their family and friends. He also loved to grill outdoors, even through the winter. In his spare time, he enjoyed drinking a cold beer, shooting pool and spending time with his family. He especially loved his dogs, Shelby, Angel and Izzy. Scott was also a longtime fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and loved going to concerts. He and Jan’s last concert was Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field, an experience he talked about fondly. Scott will be remembered by his friends and family as a hard worker. He also knew how to enjoy life and loved going to Chicago to meet his son and daughter-in law Cory and Lauren to find new and interesting “out of the way” restaurants.

Jan survives, along with his parents, Paul Browning and Kathy (Duvall) Browning, both of La Porte; his sons, Thomas Mofield of La Porte and Cory Mofield and his wife, Lauren, of Woodridge, Ill.;  his siblings, Connie (Mike) George, Joel Browning and Susan (Jim) Reese, all of La Porte; and his nieces and nephews, Damon Thomas, Dru Thomas, Brennah George and Caeden George.

Per Scott’s request, there will be no formal services, but the family asks that you honor his memory in your own special way. Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte, is assisting with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Scott’s memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. To leave an online condolence, light a virtual candle in Scott’s honor or share a memory of his life with his family, at www.esslingfuneralhome.com. You may also share a condolence below on WNLP.
