Carl Cunningham, Sr., 72, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Franciscan Health in Michigan City, Ind.
He was born Oct. 22, 1948, in Linton, Ind., the son of Bruce and Delores (Hoops) Cunningham.
Carl was a very athletic person his entire life. He played softball, was a good pool player, and loved mowing his grass and gardening, playing Texas Hold ‘Em, bowling, playing euchre, roller skating, and fishing. His true passions in life were his wife, family and his dog “Yuna,” as well as his grand- puppies “Precious,” “Patience” and “Isabella.” He was a major Cubbies and Chicago Bears fan. He had a generous heart and was willing to help anyone. In essence, he never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; two sons, Carl (Melissa) Cunningham, Jr., of La Porte and Troy (David) Cunningham of La Porte; three daughters, Kelly (Reese) Grage of La Porte, Karry (Jerry) Gray of La Porte and Brenda (Tom Rankin) Martin of Sparta, Tenn.; three brothers, Bruce, Randy (Alice) and Gayle Cunningham of La Porte; sister, Marsha Davis of La Porte; 13 grandchildren, Ashley (Ray) Rheinholtz, Kyle Crull, Tabatha (Bryan) Curless, T.C. Gray, Taylor (David Jones) Martin, Alan Cunningham, Travis Cunningham, Dustin (Erik) Gray, Jersey Martin, Mary King, Cynthia (Ben) Campbell, Justin (Jessica) Kleine, and Chelsey (Brad) Pennington of La Porte; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, La Porte, on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. A life celebration will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 14, at noon with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Interment will follow at Rolling Prairie Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Ind. Pallbearers will be Carl Jr., Troy, Reese, Jerry, T.C., Bryan, Tom, Jamison, and Raymond.
