Stephen “Steve” Mills, 1963-2020

Stephen “Steve” Alvin Mills, 57, of La Porte, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, at his home.

He was born in La Porte on Nov. 1, 1963, to Thomas Clark and Sharon Jeanne (Guibert) Mills.

Steve was a carpenter, working as a contractor. He enjoyed watching and driving race cars, especially his red car, numbered 17. Steve also enjoyed building and working on projects. He loved being outdoors, camping, and spending time with his dog. Steve also enjoyed his time as an Assistant Scout Master.

Surviving are his children, Stephen P. Mills, Emily Mills and Joseph Mills, all of La Porte; brothers, Garry (Ellen) Mills of St. Peters, Mo., and Thomas (Mary) Mills of Lebanon, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Jeffrey) Sipe of South Bend, Ind., and Deborah E. Pontius of Middletown, Ind.; his children’s mother, Rebecca D. Nevills of La Porte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home with Father Nate Edquist officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.

Due to the recent Governor’s Order, anyone attending the visitation and/or service is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing of six feet. Also, we are limited to 50 people in the building at any given time. We kindly ask for your patience as we oversee these mandated guidelines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family c/o Emily Mills, 2900 Monroe St., La Porte, Ind. 46350.
