Donald Goble, 1931-2020

Donald Lewis Goble, 89, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at Golden Living Center La Porte, Ind.

He was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Hamlet, Ind., to Chester and Dolma (Jensen) Goble.

Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army, 24th Infantry, from 1948-1952. He was stationed in Japan when the Korean War broke out and was part of the first battalion that entered Korea. Donald survived the Battle of Taejon, where he earned a Bronze Star and was field commissioned to Sergeant First Class. He spent a frigid winter at the border between Korea and China.

Donald was a welder-machinist for 14 years at New York Blower. He was a member of American Legion Post 83, Excelsior Lodge 41 and 32 Degree Scottish Rite. He enjoyed fishing and working in his hobby machine shop.

On Nov. 8, 1952, in Star City, Ind., he married Laverne Gimson, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Susan (Robert) Rega of Irwin, Pa., and Donna (Walter) Wallace of Chico, Calif.; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Velma Duensing of La Porte, Jane (Tony) Sanford of Grovertown, Ind., Judy Thompson of Hamlet and Ruth Kroc of Knox, Ind.; 3 brothers, Gene (Joanne) Goble of Hamlet, Dennis (Debbie) Goble of Hamlet and Dale Goble of Knox; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Goble; and 7 siblings.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
