Dallas E. “Gene” Pavey, 1928-2020

     Dallas E. “Gene” Pavey, 92, of La Porte, Ind. passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020.
     He was born Feb. 14, 1928 in South Bend, Ind. to Wesley and Lucy (Hostetler) Pavey.  He spent most of his life in La Porte.
     Gene was the co-founder and owner of Pavey Excavating and former owner of Genes City Service Station.  He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War; he was also a lifetime and oldest member of the La Porte VFW, a volunteer for Parents and Friends, and a member of the La Porte County Builders Association. He enjoyed his work and business, and especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

     On Jan. 31, 1953 in La Porte he married Marilyn Ann “Mona” Schutz, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Laurie (Mark) Strojny and Vickie (John) Partain, both of La Porte, and Paula (Chris) Heagy of Louisville, Ky.; sons, Robert (Roxy) Pavey of La Porte, Thomas (Stacey) Pavey and Michael (Julie) Pavey, all of La Porte; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terrence Pavey; three great-grandchildren, Cohen, Brody, and Jacob Pavey; and brother, DeWayne Pavey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Ave., La Porte, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Benjamin Crostreet officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Patton Cemetery. All attendees are required to wear a face mask.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Share Foundation with the Handicapped Inc. Endowment Fund, Unity Foundation, 422 Franklin St., Suite C., Michigan City, Ind. 46360.
