Mr. (Harold) Ray Shei, 86, of LaPorte, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at his home.
He was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Hamlet, IN, to Edwin and Ruth (Murten) Shei.
Ray was owner/operator of Shei’s Garage for 40 years, retiring in 2008. He was a past member of Pine Lake Grange, Door Village Lions Club and American Legion. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
On Aug. 14, 1948, in Knox, IN, he married Dorothy M. (Johnson) Shei, who preceded him in death Oct. 16, 2002.
Ray was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald Shei.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ruth (Rich Doughty) Shei-Pointon of Westville, IN; three sons, Eddie (Vickie) Shei of Lexington, KY, Ray (Janet) Shei Jr. of Barrington, IL, and John (Wendy) Shei of Westville; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lynette Ramsby of Argos, IN, and Pearl Killian of North Carolina.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. A life celebration will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Everett Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow at Hanna Cemetery, Hanna, IN.
