Virginia Mae Kroening, 77, of La Porte, Ind. passed away peacefully at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 at her home.
She was born May 15, 1943 in Michigan City, Ind. to Walter Andrew Strakowski Sr. and Frances Marie (Rozinski) Strakowski.
Virginia graduated in June 1961 from Elston High School, Michigan City. She also graduated as a doctor’s assistant on March 25, 1966 from Elkhart Medical University. After graduation, she worked for the Walter’s Clinic in Michigan City, then for Josam Manufacturing and for F. W. Dwyer (Dwyer Instruments). She then became a dedicated homemaker after the birth of her children. Virginia was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, Michigan City and was recently attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, crafts and sewing. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s functions and sport activities.
On Sept. 14, 1968 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Michigan City she married Wallace Eugene Kroening, who survives.
Also surviving are children, Michael (Michelle) Kroening, Sheryl (Randal) Koontz, Teresa (Matthew) Tulacz and Kristen (Noah) Fickel, all of La Porte; sister, Elizabeth Strakowski of Michigan City; brothers, Richard (Marilyn) Strakowski of Nappanee, Ind. and James Strakowski of Michigan City; and grandchildren, Aaron Kroening, Kyle and MaKayla Koontz, and Mason and Avery Tulacz.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Walter Strakowski and Robert Strzalkowski; and sisters-in-law, Doris and Rita Strakowski and Jean Strzalkowski.
Cremation will take place. There will be no service.
