Richard Ben Zarr completed his journey on this earth May 27, 2020 in St. George, Utah.

Richard was born May 6, 1941 in LaPorte, Ind. to Bennie Zarr and Kathryn Hynek Zarr. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Morrison Zarr, on Sept. 22, 1962 in LaPorte.

He grew up in LaPorte County and attended schools there, including Rolling Prairie High School. Richard served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 501st infantry.  Once he completed his enlistment he returned home and met Sharon.  He said the moment he saw her he knew he was “going to marry that girl.” They were in fact married and had three children together.  While raising their family they moved west to Salt Lake City, Utah in the fall of 1978.  Richard specialized in air compressors and, for a few years, owned his own business, Zarco.  Richard and Sharon moved to southern Utah, where they spent their retirement years together.

Richard loved to be outdoors. He was happiest when he was working in his yard. He loved to collect rocks and was always looking for new plants and flowers to grow. He enjoyed the local wildlife and always made sure the birds and foxes had plenty to eat.

Richard’s love for Elvis Presley has remained in his grandchildren’s hearts and has been passed on to his great-grandchildren. Some of their favorite memories are singing and dancing to Elvis with Grandpa.

He was a big kid at heart and the grandkids and great-grandkids loved playing with him. Richard was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his beloved wife; children, Brenda (Joseph) Todd of Magna, Utah, Richard Jr. (Loriene) Zarr, and William (Mary) Zarr of Riverton, Utah; his mother Kathryn Zarr; his siblings, Patricia Wellinski and Harold Zarr of LaPorte, and Nancy (Bruce) Terman of Edwardsburg, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (Christine), Kristen (Joshua) Lemay, Taylor, Tony, Nicole, Connor, Willy, and Bonney; and six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Katherine, Alexander, Ethan, Preston, and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Alan Zarr.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no services.

Messages of condolence may be posted below on WNLP.
