Shirley Stacy, 76, of La Porte, Ind. passed away at her home Saturday, May 16, 2020 with her family by her side.
She was born Jan. 8, 1944 in Hazard, Ky. to Tilden and Nanabell (Spencer) Vires.
On June 25, 1960 in Knox, Ind. she married J.B. Stacy. In 1968 they moved to La Porte County, where Shirley worked as a housekeeper and cook at Countryside Nursing Home. She retired in 2000.
Shirley loved sitting on her front porch, where she read and did puzzle books. She was a huge fan of “Elvis.” Shirley loved her life, most especially those grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by son, Michael (Sherry) Stacy of La Porte; daughter, Sherry Clemons of Jackson, Kan.; three brothers, John Vires of Fort Wayne, Ind, and Dave (Donna) Vires and Hershall (Phyllis) Vires of North Judson, Ind.; three sisters, Donna Clemons, Alice Lear and Carol Haskins of North Judson; brother-in-Law, Farley Mullins of La Porte; four grandchildren, Sara (Matt) Cunningham and Patsy Stacy of La Porte, and Charlene (Chris) Allen and Travis (Kelli) Clemons of Jackson, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren, Jayme, Levi, Gunner, Kurston, Maleah, Caden, Natalie; and special friend and sister-in-law, Nancy Richie of La Porte.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2010; sister, Pearl Saltsman; and two brothers, Harrison Vires and William Thomas Vires.
A graveside funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, May 21 at Kingsbury Cemetery with Deacon Farley Mullins, of First Free Will Baptist, Rolling Prairie, Ind. officiating. To help protect family and friends, attendees are asked to wear a mask and to practice six-foot social distancing.
Interment will follow. Visitation will be private.
