Harry “Bud” Perkins, 1928-2013

20131220-142333_HarryPerkins253Harry Lee “Bud” Perkins, 85, of Hamlet, IN, died Dec. 18, 2013, with his family at bedside.

He was born in LaPorte on Jan. 2, 1928, to Harry and Ethel Perkins.

Harry was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed everything his land had to offer. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, fishing and riding all over his farm on his Gator. Harry was a lifetime member of Tracy United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Freemasons. He was a 4-H leader for several years and served on the LaPorte Extension Council. He served as a supervisor for the LaPorte County Soil and Water District, and served on the Merit Board for the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department for several years. Harry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

On July 21, 1945, at Tracy United Methodist Church, Harry married Iris Dean (Hall) Perkins. Bud and Dean were married for 68 blessed years. They had two wonderful sons, John Lee Perkins (deceased) and Randall Gene Perkins (deceased).

He is survived by two grandchildren, Misty Page Strebe and her husband Robert, and Rob J. Perkins and his wife Wendy; five great-grandchildren, Gavin Tyler Troche, Kennedy Kai Troche, Zach Barger, Kali Oriana Perkins, and Lillian Marie Perkins; and two daughters-in-law, Debra K. Perkins and Jeanne Perkins.

Besides his sons, Harry was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Ruth Hayter, Nelda Goens, Doris Robinson and Helen Cole.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, with Pastor Ann Kathryn Dill of Tracy United Methodist Church and Pastor Dorothy Jones officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral at Kingsbury Cemetery.
