Barbara Jackson, 79, of La Porte, Ind. passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at her home.
She was born July 31, 1940 in Winamac, Ind. to Edison and Alma (Miller) Jackson.
Barbara lived between La Porte and Chicago for many years, working as a legal secretary for several lawyers in Chicago. Upon retirement, she moved to Nashville, Tenn. for 10 years to pursue her second career in country-western songwriting. She wrote a song which became a hit,”I Might Not Be Loved But I’m Wanted,” sung by The Law, who played it on her birthday in the Netherlands.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Minzey and his partner, Thomas Shudell, of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Gladyn Minzey, of Clarksville, Tenn. and Elizabeth “Liz” Teasley. of Chicago; brother, Cletus Jackson of North Judson, Ind.; sister, Pauline (Jack) Frasure of North Judson; seven grandchildren, Tabitha, Collin, Caleb, Christina, Stephanie, Ricki, Savannah; and three great-grandchildren, Weslynn, Carter and Travis;
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gareth Minzey; brothers and sisters, Verla, Larry, Aldene, and Lonzo.
Interment will take place at Highland Cemetery, North Judson, Ind., near her son.
