Sandra Kay McWhirter, 1949-2020

Sandra Kay McWhirter, 70, of LaPorte, Ind. passed away peacefully April 28, 2020 at Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, Fla.

She was born June 30, 1949 in La Porte to Harry and Barbara Marks.  Sandii was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.   Sandii started her working career as a cashier at Kroger’s, then worked as a medical secretary at Hematology-Oncology, finally working as a secretary at Bethany Lutheran Church.

She was fondly remembered as a kind, caring person by many whom she met during her working career.

Sandii enjoyed shopping, home decorating, dinners with her friends and family, and being remembered as one of the “Marks Girls.”  Sandii enjoyed traveling, especially to Panama City Beach, the Riviera Maya in Mexico and her winter condo in North Fort Myers, Fla.  Sandii recently traveled to Scotland to visit the birthplace of the love of her life, her husband of 52 years,  William McWhirter, whom she married Nov. 18, 1967.

Sandii battled her cancer.   Her do-it-my-way personality, unrelenting strength and endurance, aided by a loving family and an army of friends, allowed her to live her life to its fullest and on her terms.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sandii is survived by her three children,  Todd (Sonia) McWhirter, Jennifer Mrozinski and Heather Ort; four sisters, Susan (Kevin) Ren, Judy (Jim) Parks, Sherry (Chris) Price, and Terri (Chuck) Faulkenburg; grandchildren, Kasandra (Jack) Cadman, Sergeant Tyler (Brittany) Mrozinski, Kylie McWhirter, Noah McWhirter, Riley Ort, Brady Ort and Lexi Ort; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Izzi and Otis.

There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
